Put on in partnership with SCOE, sessions will support families in navigating the holiday season.

Fairfield, CA (November 18, 2025) - Families across Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) recently completed a three-part Strengthening Families Workshop Series designed to enhance family communication skills and foster strong family relationships, presented in partnership with the Solano County Office of Education (SCOE). Building on the success of these fall workshops, FSUSD has scheduled two additional Strengthening Families sessions in December to support families in navigating the holiday season. The same content will be presented at both sessions. Families are encouraged to register at fsusdlinks.org/FamilySeries for the date and location that works best for them:

  • Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 9:00-10:30 am

These interactive workshops will provide strategies for managing stress, maintaining balance, and supporting emotional well-being during what can be both a joyful and challenging time of year.

The fall workshops were hosted by FSUSD at Fairview Elementary School. The series featured sessions facilitated by SCOE Mental Health and Wellness clinicians, offered in both English and Spanish, with topics focusing on building children’s self-esteem, preventing bullying, and exploring how self-awareness, confidence, and effective communication contribute to healthier family dynamics and stronger relationships.

This three-part format represented a new approach to FSUSD’s Strengthening Families events.  Each session built upon the last, allowing families to reinforce learning, strengthen skills, and apply strategies progressively over time. Participants gained practical skills, strategies, and everyday practices that could be applied immediately with their families.

“We believe that when we invest in strengthening families, we’re not just teaching skills, we’re nurturing connection, building trust, and creating a foundation where children thrive, parents feel empowered, and communities grow stronger together,” remarked Dr. Veneisha Johnson, Clinical Services Supervisor with SCOE.

“As we approach the holidays, we recognize that families are facing added pressures and challenges,” said Holly Collins, FSUSD Coordinator of Parent and Family Engagement.  “Our goal is to continue offering spaces where families can come together to find strategies that support emotional wellness, especially during times when it’s needed most.”

The event was made possible in part by a grant awarded to SCOE by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The ReCast (Resilience and Community After Stress and Trauma) grant aims to support local communities by improving behavioral health, reducing trauma, and fostering sustainable community change through collaboration and empowerment.
